The zen of your shell
reflects in wells of her mind
But rough are the currents
in both your sea and her cries.
Visions curl round the peaks, her breath tangled in yours
Her truth and your heat
share a dance from the core.
The stain of her thoughtsgrips her hair in your hands
But together they’re clean,
rinsed of all time’s demands.
…
Just a meandering memory I am brave enough to share xx

A living, breathing, energising being, Labyrinth pulsates not only to the beat of impressive, high-quality techno, but also with the rhythm of the earth, the people, the mountains, the moods. It tunes one’s frequencies to the waves of freedom it offers, bringing with it a collected awareness and united energy which vibrates throughout the valleys in Naeba Greenland.
The Japanese are The Future.
The quality of sound from those custom Funktion Ones is unsurpassable by anything I’ve heard before, making it possible to forget at times I was 30m away and outdoors (despite the breathtaking landscape at every glance).
If you’ve ever been to Church on Sundays* in Berlin, you’ll know my standards are already as high as the kids in Panorama. Yet I recognised instantly that the sound at Labyrinth embodied something more. Something so substantial that it grips not with brutal demands, but rather with an enchanting, holy allure, satisfying desires through every pore and fibre. It encapsulates and accepts one and all within it.
Kindness and generosity of spirit flowed through the crowd as pure and crystal-clear as the mountain stream just a pebble’s throw from where our bare feet danced for 3 glorious days. I’ve never been so moved and inspired by such a collective soul. The temperament of Japanese Earth Children** is undeniably infectious. Their unique and mutual love is something I can deeply connect with and enjoy reciprocating. This is what sets them (and Labyrinth) apart from any other people (or festival) I have encountered. Pure and true.
This defiant human spirit showed no weakness to the forces of Mother Nature; instead it raised devoted, united hands to the skies that lashed them with torrential rain, relentless rays and destructive winds. And not one whimper escaped from those Funktion Ones. How better to merge with Nature than to offer our own creative potential in return?
All of this personal awe and wide-eyed wonder is prefaced with only two minor qualms:1. That for such an efficient, eco-friendly festival, those toilets could have received some TLC, as could have the number and positioning of the bins.***
2. Despite being surrounded by the clearest and jaw-droppingly advanced sound, young children need earmuffs!
This is my thank you to everyone who participated in and supported Labyrinth Festival 2012. Ari-fucking-gato!
The Japanese are THE FUTURE!
* Berghain, obviously** For want of a better term than “Hippies”
*** Having said that it must be noted that they have an admirably meticulous sorting system!
